When it comes to controlling human beings, there is no better instrument than lies. Because, you see, humans live by beliefs. And beliefs can be manipulated. The power to manipulate beliefs is the only thing that counts.” – Michael Ende

The best liars hold the most influence in our society. They create worlds, and destroy reality as easily as they breathe. However, liars can’t get away with their behavior forever. There generally comes a time when liars become tangled in their own web, lost in the world of their own design. If you’re a Democrat, there will be a horde of journalists defending you to the bitter end, as well as continuous denial from your entire administration.

Obama is a liar, through and through. He has, in my opinion, reached maximum capacity, in terms of his lies. Scandals ride in on the backs of the previous scandals, and without fail, Obama follows the same pattern:

Gosh, I just found out about this on the news, like everybody else.”

“I am outraged!”

“This problem predates my administration”

“However, I will do everything to fix this!”

Someone eventually resigns (generally someone set to retire anyway).

“Why do you keep bringing this up? It’s old news.”

Most recently, Obama has had to deal with the VA scandal—problems which, as we now know, he knew about prior to his presidency. But something has changed over the last week. A big accomplishment has clouded the news field, ostensibly shoving the VA scandal aside. Obama negotiated the release of an American soldier held captive by the Taliban for the last five years. To accomplish this, he had to hand over five dangerous terrorists in return.

From what I’ve heard, these negotiations have been ongoing since at least 2012, but I find it really interesting that just as the VA scandal was lighting up the news cycle, the negotiations finally bore fruit. If these talks have been happening for years now, the chances of the final release of soldier Bowe Bergdahl occurring at this precise time gives me pause.

I may be going out on a limb, but this seems too perfectly coordinated. This smacks of a distraction. Just as the president is facing harsh criticism regarding his loyalty to American soldiers, and questions about whether or not he cares about veterans, he successfully negotiates the release of a captured soldier. Now, Obama can parade himself around the speech circuit, trumpeting his alleged love of the troops. How wonderfully convenient.

The only problem is that Bowe Bergdahl is being called a deserter, and possibly worse. The questions regarding Bergdahl’s loyalty to the United States, as well as his mental state are coming in waves. Additionally, Obama is facing harsh criticism that he not only broke the law by circumventing Congress to negotiate this release, but that his plan has set a dangerous precedent in the war on terror.

Obama may have thought that he could create a distraction from the VA scandal, but in the end, he has created a new scandal all by himself. I wonder how long it will take for him to blame someone else for the negotiated release of Bergdahl? How exactly will Obama be able to tie it to Bush? He’ll have the media’s help, I’m certain. But will he be able to pull it off this time? Or perhaps he’ll create another distraction, with the hopes that it won’t turn into a national debate this time.

The Liar in Chief has gotten tangled in his own spin.
